The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Management is the oldest Faculty of Poznan University of Technology. It was at the roots of higher education in technical subjects in Wielkopolska Region. It was set up in 1919 as the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – the first Faculty of State Higher School of Mechanical Engineering. Due to requirements of the market and changes of its structure this name was changed several times:
between 1919-1952 it operated as the Faculty of Mechanics, then it became the Faculty of Machines Design(1952-1967), later as the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology (1967-1974), it got back to its original name of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (1974-1998), and finally, in 1998 it received its current name of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Management.
Available fields of study - Mechanical Engineering, Management and Production Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Engineering and Biomedical Engineering – provide an excellent opportunity to study mechanical engineering in its widest meaning – constructions, technologies, automation, diagnostics and informatisation, as well as management and production engineering - to learn about production systems and quality management. Materials engineering, including nanomaterials, completes the picture. The newest fields of study respond to high expectations of today’s job market – knowledge of mechatronics engineers combines expertise in several fields and various skills. Biomedical engineering is the field of studies where specialists in design and operation of prosthetics and medical equipment are trained.
The Faculty is entitled to confer scientific grades of doctor and doctor habilitated of technical sciences in three fields: design and operation of machinery, materials science and engineering and mechanical engineering.
At present, the Faculty’s comprises 4 Institutes with 13 Divisions and 1 Chair.
