Shinkansen – an overview of the system and elements of Japanese culture

Shinkansen is arguably the most visible sign of Japan’s technological advancement and, together with electronic goods, Mt. Fuji and sushi, the most recognizable symbol of Japan. The presentation will draw upon the origins of the famous Japanese high-speed rail system and its development over the period of close to 60 years. Challenges faced by engineers in the operation of Shinkansen trains will be briefly addressed, and information attesting to their incredible efficiency will be provided.

ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Calling all language enthusiasts!

To celebrate its 70th anniversary, the Centre of Languages and Communication is holding an Essay Writing Competition “The role of languages in building identity” open to all PUT students.

 

Candidates are invited to submit an original essay in English of between 800 and 1,200 words on one of the following topics:

FOSTERING SUSTAINABLE COOPERATION

Dear colleagues, Policy Area Education, Science and Social affairs invite you to take part in an online keystakeholder workshop “Distance education” on 8 December 2022 at 14.00-16.00 (CET).

The workshop is part of an online conference, organized by the Swedish Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). The conference will gather participants from the Baltic Sea Region, Ukraine and the EU Strategy for Danube Region for a discussion on how the EUSBSR can promote cooperation to support the recovery of Ukraine. Polish Culture Week at Centre of Languages and Communication

Dear All,

we invite you to participate in the Polish Culture Week held between 28 November - 02 December, 2022. Culture Week is a colourful event organized yearly, usually at the beginning of December, by the Centre of Languages and Communication. The week-long event, meant for international students at Poznan University of Technology, is filled with interesting presentations, film shows and workshops. Students learn about Polish history, culture and traditions, prepare posters and have fun singing Polish songs – see the programme on the CLC website.
