The Alliance Games 2023 have come to an end

EUNICE Alliance Games, the sports competition between EUNICE universities initiated during the challenging times of the pandemic, took place at Poznań University of Technology for the third time. This is the last edition under the EUNICE banner, but as of November 1st, this idea will be continued for the next 4 years under the name EUNICE4U. We hope that the tradition of sporting competitions between students from the countries forming the consortium (in the new edition, there will be 10 countries) will continue.

We've had three days of sporting contests in the spirit of fair play and intense competition over the net. These were also three days of student integration, meetings, spending time together, and creating memories for the future. Besides the sporting competition, this aspect brought joy to the entire EUNICE family, especially because the project is dedicated to students, and they are at the center of our activities. Watching their happiness, energy, and commitment was a reward for all the effort put into organizing this event.

The official closing of the tournament, along with the presentation of medals and trophies, took place on October 25, 2023, in the sports hall of the Poznań University of Technology Sports Center. All the teams participating in the tournament, their coaches, supervisors, and representatives of Poznań University of Technology, including Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Dr. Paweł Śniatała, Prof. PP, Dr. Liliana Szczuka-Dorna, Prof. PP, Director of the Center for Languages and Communication, and Magdalena Sikorska, Head of the European University Department with the whole EUNICE team at PP, gathered at this event.

The following teams stood on the podium:

  1. University of Catania (Italy)
  2. Poznan University of Technology (Poland)
  3. University of Cantabria (Spain)

The first three winning teams received medals, trophies, and small gifts. All participants received commemorative medals and participation certificates. We warmly congratulate our team under the guidance of coach Łukasz Murdzia for their fantastic achievement and second-place finish. The University of Catania team proved to be a worthy and challenging opponent.

After the official part, there was a cultural segment, which was energetically led by Karol Matysiak from the Center for Languages and Communication. Students had the opportunity to listen to a performance by Professor Brian Tomaszewski, a Fulbright scholar in the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications and sing songs from the partner countries of EUNICE. Just like sports, music brings people together, and we concluded the entire event with a collective dance.

The third edition of the Alliance Games has now become a part of history. We thank everyone for this wonderful time, full of joy, integration, and openness to other cultures. We don't want to jinx it, but... see you next year!
